Rory Plewman, 21, of Menlo Park, Calif., prepares to launch his kite in Los Barriles, Mexico on December 28, 2017. Plewman has been kitesurfing since the age of 15 and loves skimming over the waves at close to 30 mph. For him, kitesurfing serves as a quasi-religious ritual inspiring a sense of totality he rarely experiences in the monotony of everyday life. In addition to Mexico, Plewman has surfed in over 8 different countries including Western Sahara, Turks and Caicos and St. Kitts and Nevis.
